Match Report
ACWu13 had struggled to turn performances into goals in their previous matches. They put that behind them on Sunday, by hitting a magnificent seven against a spirited, but limited, Roehampton Rangers.
For the most part it was one-way traffic. Finn opened the scoring by latching on to a loose ball and looping a high shot beyond the defence; Joe’s deft chip over the advancing keeper was a stunner: and Tom provided a delightful diagonal pass to Sam, who shrugged off his defenders, and fired in. Half time, 3-0.
The Colt’s domination continued in the second half. Tom cut inside from the left wing, rolled the ball into space and shot from 15 yards out; Jack, Alex and George exchanged a neat series of passes before playing square for Joe to fire in his second. Sam’s determination and quick reactions will be a handful for defenders this season. He was first to the rebound after the keeper parried Danny’s shot and, later, was first to knock in a cross from the right for his well deserved hat trick.
The match finished 7-1 but should have been more– Jack in particular deserved a goal; industrious throughout the match, he almost got his foot to Tom’s ball across the goal face. Later, he saw the keeper tip his stinging drive onto the bar. And had Alex’s volley been lower, the goal of the season competition could have been decided there and then.
Rangers kept working but offered little threat going forward. Their goal kicks were poor and they had difficulty building from the back. They did manage to win a compensatory penalty mid way through the second half but, in general, they failed to press and get players up in support of the rare occasions they threatened down the right wing.
A solid performance and the goals should give the Colts a real boost. A big thanks to Henry who replaced the injured Liam and put in a real shift throughout the game.
