Match Report
Test of character!
Well we started brightly, taking a 1-0 lead through good build up play and a smart finish from Jack G, his tenth goal of the season. Then it all went wrong. They scored a screamer from way outside the area, Ben was unlucky to fire an own goal when attempting a clearance and as our heads dropped Teddington took full advantage. We couldn't handle their midfield players and clever passing and despite some committed defending the goals flowed to make it 9-1 at half time.
The second half saw a much improved performance. Perhaps their levels dropped, but we took the game to them and managed to stem the flow of attacks with more robust defending and a pride amongst the team not to let the score get worse. Shaun used his pace to good advantage and scored a brace either side of Jack M's first goal of the season. Teddington added two more to their first half tally, but we won the second half 3-2!
Not our finest display, but they are a good team and should be in a higher division. I was really pleased with the pride we showed in the second half and the willingness to fight. I won't single them out, but there were some excellent displays of leadership, desire and passion. If we are going to get beat, let's go down with a fight. I expect that from all of the players.
After a great start to the season there is a danger we get downheartened with the recent setbacks. We shouldn't. Aside from today we have competed in every game. We have a run of games now every week if the weather plays ball and the challenge to the players is to go out every week and try their hardest.
MOTM - Shaun. Two good goals and great pace. He kept plugging away and got his reward.
