Match Report
Out of luck!
The Rovers starred in a real battle of the top two sides in the division this morning, narrowly coming off second best after being denied on two occasions by the woodwork. The match started brightly for both sides with Staines eventually taking the lead in the middle of the first half with a well worked goal. I thought we could have defended our box better, but it was a good strike. This sparked us into life and we had a 10 minute period of pressure where we were all over them but couldn't force a goal.
The second half followed the pattern of the first with both sides pressing until a long ball allowed their forward to outrun our defence and fire a shot which slipped through Max's arms into the net. Max will know he could have done better and it's a goal we shouldn't have conceded, but he had pulled off a cracking save just moments before. Undaunted, we continued to press forward and forced a free kick on the edge of the D. Ollie stepped forward and floated the ball over all of the players where it bounced in front of the goalie and through his arms into the net. A soft one, but after giving them one it evened things up. With the clock ticking down we threw everything at it and should really have equalised with good chances for Shaun and Brads and two efforts coming back off the post. It wasn't to be and we succumbed to our first league defeat of the season.
A special mention to Jeff for the comedy moment of trying to flag offisde whilst sliding and pirouetting in the mud! Come on You've Been Framed fans, there is money in kids football!
MOTM - Nick Young. Intelligent defending in defence and great determination to win the ball with his head or body.
