Match Report
Gutted with the result, well pleased with the performance!
Well that was much better this morning. After last week's disappointing display against the same opposition it was time to take the game to them this morning. We started brightly and were the better team, creating a number of chances where with a bit more composure we could have taken a challenging lead. But as seems to be our luck at the moment Send took the lead through their only real attacking threat who then created their second goal. It was disappointing as we had planned what to do in those situations, but good players will always get chances. Undaunted by this setback we continued to create chances and Bradley pulled one back with a deserved goal after good work by Ollie.
So, 2-1 at half time, we were playing well and enjoying being back at the rec with a good surface and space to play. It was more of the same for most of the second half as we continued to knock at their door and they tried to hit us on the break. Finally Jack O equalised with a well taken lob over the keeper from out on the right and it was no more than we deserved. Could we go on and win the game? Well, we continued to try and forced Send to defend deep in their own half. But it was not to be. You could see us tiring in the last five minutes and with concentration levels slipping Send hit us on the break again and despite some desperate efforts to defend they managed to squeeze the ball past Max. Heartbreak for us, unwarranted delirium for them. Some great performances, after the early leaks we were strong in defence, the midfield purred and constantly provided good service to the front two who were a real threat. Well played boys and Ish.
After such a great start to the season this recent period of games against the top teams in the division has been tough for the team. Confidence levels have dropped and with that the willingness to do the right things and perform for the whole match have been affected. This was the perfect answer from the team. To be 2-0 down so early in the match after our recent performances was a mental test of their character, but their heads didn't drop, they continued to do all the right things and they played as a TEAM. The communication, effort, determination and application of what we talk about pre-match were back to a high level. Lets keep that going for the remainder of the season. If we really believe that these matches are about children developing their skills and enjoying the game then this morning was a perfect example. It didn't matter that we lost, we performed and showed what we have learnt from recent weeks. That is what matters.
MOTM - Nick Young. Excellent last week and followed that up with another great display. Brave in the tackle, willing to head the ball and showed that he has really been listening in training.
