Match Report
Ashtead were desperate to beat one of their bogey teams and they ceratinly did it in style as they thumped South Park 7-0.
Ashtead were immediately into the game and took an early lead through Connor Northeast and the same player soon made it 2-0. Ashtead played with great control and their possession level must have somewhere around 80% as they stroked the ball around using the full extent of the pitch. Harry Steer scored his 50th goal for Ashtead shortly before half-time and Ashtead went into the break 3-0 up.
A short chat at half-time centred on continuing to play in the same vein and NOT thinking it was "game over" as happened recently against Woodmansterne.
Could Ashtead perform better in the second half than the first? The answer was yes as they upped their game and goals from James Taylor x 2 (including a contender for goal of the season) and Louis Illingworth took Ashtead 6-0 in front. Finally Connor Northeast's hard work and determination paid off as he scored his third to give him a very well deserved hat-trick.
In the final minutes South Park made a break into the Ashtead penalty area but Will Gamble, who'd had a very easy game up to this point, made a very brave save at the feet of the South Park striker and ensured a clean sheet for Ashtead.
Many congratulations to the whole squad for a fantastic performance where they dominated the game from the first whistle to last. The tireless running of Tom Hagley, Harry Steer and Louis Illingworth, the outstanding defending from David Baker, Adam Balshaw and Tom Melody, the superb marking job on the South Park striker by Tom Proudfoot, the excellent finishing by James Taylor must all be mentioned along with the ex-goalkeeper, Connor Northeast, who scored a hat-trick and the ex-striker, Will Gamble, who kept a clean sheet; maybe I've been missing something there!!
