Match Report
Fantastic Effort
The Rovers travelled to Teddington this morning to take on a team that had won all of their league games, scoring 46 goals and conceding just 8 in the process. A tough task and although we eventually narrowly lost, we played our part in a very enjoyable game for the spectators and came away with our heads held high.
Employing an unfamiliar 3-4-1 formation the opening 10 minutes were spent bedding down in our positions, however, we were soon taking the game to Teddington and opened the scoring when Shaun was released down the left and scored with a crisp shot into the corner of the net. Not used to such upstarts, Teddington raised their game and despite some great defending scored two goals to leave the game at 2-1 to them at half time.
Undaunted, we started the second half brightly and had soon levelled the scores when Jack O was put through on goal and lobbed the advancing keeper. The match continued to sway back and forth until Teddington once again took the lead. Again, we refused to give up and after forcing a corner Nick pounced to head in his first goal of the season and level the scores at 3-3. With the clock ticking down Teddington went for the winner and despite some great defending scored it with seconds left to go (the boys tell me it was clearly offside).
A great game and a top performance from the boys and Ish. Great teamwork, effort and determination from all. James, Harry and Nick deserve a mention for adapting to a new system so well, whilst everyone else played their part in a performance which proves we can live with the best this division can offer. We were on the end of some dubious reffing decisions and without these we were well worth a draw or even the win!
MOTM - Bradley Keene. It's not easy to stay alert at 3 degrees c, but Brads made some great saves which spurred on the team.
