Match Report
Redhill Starman Steals a March
On a dreary day in Redhill, Ashtead were very much undone after an encouraging start to the game. It seemed promising for Ashtead as their domination in the early stages looked as though this would be a one sided affair. But with great skill and determination the Redhill no 10 weaved his way through on several occasions and opened the scoring against the run of play. Before long Redhill added another as some of the Ashtead boys looked like an England team after a night in the dentist’s chair. A late goal from Archie brought Ashtead back into just before the half time whistle and some incredible hard work from Jed, and solid defending from Alex kept the score at 2-1. Adding another 2 in the second half, Redhill looked to have the game wrapped up at 4-1 up. Time for them to take off their star player and in so doing the game opened up, allowing Alex to go on some incredible runs from the back, playing some great football. It seemed the half time chat had worked when Ashtead started to apply the pressure and looked dangerous going forward. Jed scored his first and with 3 minutes left it looked, even from the other side of the pitch, as if the Redhill supporters were sweating having taken off their no 10. Samuel made a terrific run down the right flank and fired in a cross with Beckham accuracy which Jed met on the volley to thrash into the back of the net. 4-3 and with just over a minute to go. But alas, it was not long enough for Ashtead to find that last push for an equaliser. By and large it was a good effort, but more disappointingly dropped points against a largely unthreatening opposition could prove costly come the end of the season. Some work on passing and tackling to be done!
