Match Report
Ashtead have a day to forget at Molesey
After a season of much improved performances that have not turned into points, Ashtead had a bad day and got the result they deserved in a poor performance on a small pitch.
After last week’s impressive showing against title chasing Mayford, it was surprising to see Ashtead looking so out of sorts and the positives were few and far between. However, the goal they scored at least showed what they are capable of when Guy Francis received the ball, held off a challenge from the defender then hit a fierce shot that the keeper could only push onto the crossbar. James Gaffney was following up well and tucked the ball away with a minimum of fuss.
Despite the best efforts of Peter Boardman in the Ashtead defence there was no let-up from the Molesey attack and little that either Ashtead keepers (Joe Young in the first half and Max Parris in the second) could do about the goals.
To be fair, Molesey were clearly more used to playing on the very small pitch that did not suit the Ashtead style of fast, direct football. So....all in all, a game to forget and Ashtead should look ahead with determination to next week to get back to the better performances they have been giving this season.
Peter Boardman – did not give up and made tackle after tackle in an attempt to get Ashtead back into the game. Peter exhibited the spirit and determination that the team will need for the rest of the season.
