Match Report
Through the wringer!
Match days bring curious feelings. It's kids football, let's hope they have fun and enjoy it we all say. But we want to win don't we? Of course. When we are on a run of good results like we are, you don't want it to end. But still, they are only ten and eleven. Yes, but look how well they are doing. Lets hope they progress and bring some of the things they learn from training into the match. Yes, that would be good. Some reward for the hours of lace tying! But it doesn't matter if we lose, it's only kids football. Yeah, but I hate losing, at anything! All of this swirls around. And today was horrible.
I elected to put Jack G in goal (after all, he's my son, I see him in goal in the garden and he saves everything!) and promptly see him let in three horrible first half goals. Swallow me up, please. Brads scored a good goal and we are unlucky not to add a couple more before Max adds a good second and Brads grabs another on the stroke of half time. 3-3. We hadn't started great, but we hadn't played bad, we were back level and could kick on.
A change of goalie from Jack to Max and with Mateo beginning to pull the strings in midfield it was only a matter of time. Or so I thought. Their goalie had other ideas and had an absolute blinder. Jack G beat him with a great strike to partly make amends for his earlier blunders, but we just couldn't capitalise on the numerous chances coming our way (I cannot believe Mateo didn't score at least one - you won't meet a goalie that good every week). A wonder strike from 70 yards loops over Max to draw them level. I feel deflated. But we don't give up and with the clock ticking down Shaun strikes his first goal for the club and gives us the win. Relief. But it doesn't matter, it's only kids football!!
The boys and Ish showed tremendous character to come back and win the game this morning. No one gave up and we played some good passing football to continually open them up. The pitch didn't do us any favours, but they didn't moan, they got on with it and I am very proud of them. But please, don't do that to me every week.
MOTM - Ishbel. We have come to expect this kind of performance, but Ish was everywhere. She broke up their play with courageous tackling, passed the ball intelligently and led by example. Simply brilliant.
