Match Report
ACu13W dropped their first points of the campaign after they were held to a draw by Bedfont & Feltham on Sunday. Despite a late rally, the Wanderers failed to capitalise on a 2-0 lead and were eventually pegged back, finishing the match 2-2.
This was the Wanderers first away game of the season. It was played on a large pitch located to the South side of Heathrow airport. A well maintained ground but the surface was uneven and the grass was long, hindering a short passing game in favour of a more direct approach.
Tom W read it right. Speed and determination saw him tear through the Bedfont back line on the left, before homing in on goal and slotting the ball home. And it was Tom again, who put the Wanderers 2-0 up, reacting quickly when Bedfont failed to clear a short corner.
He may have had his hat trick but his header was ruled offside, which proved a pivotal moment in the match. From the resulting free kick, Bedfont swiftly counter-attacked and won a penalty - hit low into the left hand corner. Instead of 3-0, it was now 2-1.
Bedfont had looked dangerous. Only quick action from Charlie and George prevented them from scoring earlier, when the keeper took the sting out of a shot and George cleared the deflection off the line. But now, back in the game, they began to apply pressure and the result was an equaliser in the second half. A left side corner evaded the Wanderers and the No11 side-footed the ball home.
Still, credit the Wanderer’s spirit. The defence were magnificent, typified by superb performances from Ben and Charlie and the team finished strongly; Jack found the net but was ruled offside; Danny shot just wide of the left post; Liam almost fired in from a corner. And, in the last minute, Tom was bundled over when through on goal.
