Match Report
First day delight!
The Rovers opened the season with a cracking away win this morning courtesy of two goals each from Jack G and Bradley and another from Jack O. Playing their first competitive game at 9v9 the Rovers started strongly and quickly took the lead with a clinical finish from Jack G after he had been played in on the edge of the box. A period of attacking pressure followed for the majority of the first half before Badshot capitalised on a defensive error and equalised. Undaunted, the Rovers replied immediately with a fast flowing move of great quality that saw Ollie feed his brother inside the box and Jack bury the ball with another tremendous strike. Goal of the Match. 2-1 at half time.
Buoyed by their half time team talk Badshot started the second half the stronger of the two teams and it wasn't long before the pressure told and they added two quick goals, one after another air shot and Ollie being taken out by a sniper. 3-2 down, unhappy manager embarassingly throwing his toys over another defensive mistake and Badshot on the rise. How would we react? The travelling fans weren't sure, mutterings of sack the manager could be heard, but Jack O wasn't lying down and pulled the scores level from close range after a good cross from Brads. 3-3 on a knife edge and we were back on the attack. Brads then wriggled through the Badshot defence and scored to the ear splitting delight of his Mum. Could we hold on? Not with Mick O running the line. Showing commendable application to his job he flagged for the most minor of handballs against Harry (did he not see Peter Crouch juggling last night?) and awarded a penalty to Badshot. Jack G had donned the gloves at half time and gave the Badshot penalty taker his meanest Bieberesque stare before the ball was ballooned over the bar to the delight of the travelling faithful. Brads added a fifth in the dying moments after bravely challenging their keeper.
A great game of competitive football that was a joy to watch. The boys played as a team, carried out my tactical instructions, passed the ball well, were vocal on the pitch and had a cutting edge. It was VERY good.
MOTM - Jack Merricks. It could have been anyone today, but Jack was a rock at the back, stuck to his job, passed the ball tidyly and was a tiger in the tackle.
Well done everyone. More of the same next week please.
Yup, I know, I need to change the picture. Haircuts this week please. Cameras out on Sunday!
