OUCH!
Following the euphoria of their first victory the week before, Ashtead travelled to Merstham for what was to be a particularly one sided affair. There were no excuses against a side who had benefitted from being together for some years and took advantage of the academy training on offer at Merstham FC (oh, they are excuses!). Anyhow, Merstham deserve credit for their efforts, some great strikes and passing on an unusually small pitch which better suits a well drilled, passing outfit (ooops there's another excuse).
Not much to say really - Ashtead were outplayed, outpassed and outscored by quite a margin. What with a disgraceful display from Rooney, a lacklustre performance in New Zealand, and a matserclass from the opposition in Merstham, a thoroughly disappointing few hours of sport.
But the Ashtead boys did not let their shoulders drop and came off smiling which is the most important thing - and cakes provided by Paddy's sister Ella were certainly welcomed!
