Under 15's C
Match Report
This week’s game took us to leafy Cobham to play Oxshott Royals, a game I had positive vibes for.
The boys were treated to a 15 minute warm up curtsey of Dom Feltham,
The game could not have got off to a better start, an inch perfect ball from Aiden up the by-line to James Long and a cracking shot followed. 1st minute we were 1 – 0 up. 5 minutes later James is there again with a superb shot from outside the box to make it 2 – 0. The pressure was obviously too much for Judith as she had to go and do her weekly shop at Waitrose, but the boys fought well and a few chances went begging and on 20 minutes Oxshott got one back. The ref was obviously on their payroll as we had free-kick after free-kick awarded against us but we kept on the pressure and were rewarded by a swerving shot from Aiden that would have graced any premiership game.
Half Time and Ashtead were in what seemed like a commanding position 3 – 1.
The second half started as the first had begun, this time on 37 minutes Freddie went on a run up the left flank and with the outside of his boot rocketed in our 4th. Lewis on duty again between the sticks pulled off the save of the season diving full length to his right to deny what was a good shot. The defence as in past weeks were solid but lacked support from midfield again (must try and sort that out). 4 minutes later Oxshott scored their second. 4 – 2. I still felt reasonably confident but that was short lived as they went on the ascendance and scored a third. I must pick out Tom Cunningham who was covering every blade of grass on the pitch and for such a small lad was tackling like his life depended on it. With a couple of minutes to go James Long was scythed down on the edge of the box but as I mentioned before the ref was having none of it. With less than a minute to go my weekend was ruined 4 – 4. Hay Ho I thought to myself over a beer when I got home, the boys did good so who am I to complain. Looking at the U13C Almanac this was the 1st draw we have had in nearly 30 games.
Once again all the boys did well with Freddie Feltham adding to his goal tally this year and nice to see James Long opening his account. My MOM this week is Tom Cunningham for his 101% commitment
Next week we take a break from the league and have a League cup tie.
